Student rings cowbell

An in-person event for students admitted to CSU … and their guests!

You made countless edits on your application. You waited patiently to hear a decision. And, finally, you received an email and read two simple words: “You’re In.”

What is it, exactly?

At Choose CSU, the most-exciting program of the year for admitted students and their guests, you have the opportunity to choose what your visit looks like. You’ll build a customized schedule to get the information most relevant to you — your academic experiences, your goals, and your interests. The day is set up conference style, and includes multiple sessions, tour opportunities, and presentations hosted by your academic college and various campus resources. You’ll also have the chance to take home CSU swag, participate in fun admitted-student traditions, and more.

Between 500-1,400 guests attend each event. There are lots of other admitted students and families to talk with while you’re here!

Who should attend?

Whether you already know you’re a future Ram, you’re considering your options, or you’re returning to campus for another visit, Choose CSU offers a unique way to explore campus and help with your college decision. Guests are welcome!

When is it?

The Office of Admissions typically hosts several Choose CSU events throughout the year, from December until March. Registration links will be posted on this page when the events are scheduled.

Our signature Choose CSU event includes various tour times, a welcome session by university leaders, a resource fair, academic offerings to learn about your specific areas of study, and breakout sessions on topics like financial aid, housing, and student involvement. Turn in your RamGo card (like Bingo, only better!) for a prize, and join the tradition of confirming your enrollment deposit and ringing the CSU rambell (like a cowbell, only better!).

Parking is free on Saturday and no permit is needed. If you come to campus on Friday before 4 p.m., you must obtain a digital parking permit prior to parking on campus. Visitors may obtain a free, online permit by registering their vehicle’s license plate during the event registration process.

Reserved parking for Saturday’s event is located in Lot 425, which is near the Morgan Library and the Lory Student Center.

Coming from out of town? For those traveling to Colorado by air, Denver International Airport is the closest major airport to Fort Collins. Colorado State University is about 65 miles north of the airport, and there are several options for transportation following your flight.

  • When will we receive a finalized schedule for the day?
A finalized schedule will be sent out via email and posted on our website in advance of the event.
  • How do I decide how to schedule my day?
Choose CSU is designed for each guest to tailor their experience to meet their needs. We provide access to many various student services, academic programs, and student life programs all in one event. We encourage everyone to attend the Welcome Session, which will provide further information and recommendations to help you plan your day. We’ll also have staff at check-in and throughout the day at the Admissions Information Table to help you. Descriptions of each session will be available on our website with QR codes in your printed schedule (provided at the event) to help you start visualizing your visit.
  • Which Academic Experience should I attend?
We recommend you attend the Academic Experience for the college of the major or area of study you selected when you were admitted. If you are in Exploratory Studies, take this opportunity to choose a college that has areas of study that you’re interested in learning more about. You will be able to talk with other colleges at the Information and Resource Fair. And we’d also be happy to setup another customized visit opportunity for you with any other colleges you are interested in exploring further.
  • How do I know which college my major or area of study falls into?
Don’t worry! We’ll provide that information when you check-in. You can also find more information here. There are eight colleges: College of Agricultural Sciences (CAS), College of Business (COB), College of Engineering (COE), College of Health and Human Sciences (CHHS), College of Liberal Arts (CLA), Warner College of Natural Resources (WCNR), College of Natural Sciences (CNS), College of Veterinary Medicine and Biological Sciences (CVMBS).
  • How early will the day start?
With hundreds of guests for this event, we encourage you to arrive early. The interstate can be unpredictable, among other factors. While we strive to make check-in as easy and quick as possible, lines will likely be unavoidable at times, and we want to make sure you don’t miss a thing. Early check-in starts at 7:15 a.m. and will be open for a couple of hours to accommodate varying schedules.
  • What do I need for check-in?
We will check in guests using the QR code in your confirmation email. Please have your cell phone out with the QR code pulled up before you get to the scanning table.
  • Can I bring my parents, guests, or siblings?
Absolutely! Rams get by with a little help from their herd. We encourage you to bring your parents, guests, or siblings to this event. We just ask that you add them to your registration, so we have an accurate attendance count. Guests may choose any sessions they would like to attend. You do not have to attend the same sessions. In fact, we encourage you to spread out to gather as much information as possible from your experience.
  • What if there is a weather emergency?
In the event CSU is closed due to weather, all registrants will receive a text notification of the event’s cancellation, and a notice will be posted at safety.colostate.edu. It is rare for CSU to close due to weather due to our well-equipped facilities department, but we want you make the decision whether to attend based on your circumstances and comfort.
  • What should I wear?
We recommend you wear comfortable, layered clothing appropriate for the weather. You will be walking a lot indoors and outdoors, so comfortable, weather-appropriate shoes are encouraged.
  • Where can we eat lunch during Choose?
We will be providing snacks and beverages throughout the day on the 3rd floor of the Lory Student Center outside of the Grand Ballrooms (where you attend the Welcome Session). Lunch will be on your own. There will be two food trucks outside the student center. Inside, a limited number of restaurants will be open. The schedule can be found here. Nearby, at Campus West (Shields Avenue across from the intramural fields and Moby Arena) numerous restaurants will be open and you can find a list here. On nearby Laurel Street, there is Café Bluebird, Rainbow Restaurant, Mugs Coffee Lounge, Cheeba Hut, Backdoor Grill, and Half Fast Subs.
  • I cannot find the confirmation email after registering. Where do I find it?
Please contact admissionsvisits@colostate.edu for your confirmation email to be resent.
  • My parents or guest registered me under a different name. How can I change my name on the registration?
Please contact admissionsvisits@colostate.edu they will be able to assist with changing the name in the registration.
