Trying to dig a little deeper into Colorado State’s majors, just starting out in your major search, or want to see what it looks like to be a student in a certain major? Our “3 reasons” series is the perfect place to start. In each installment, we’re bringing you three standout reasons to choose a major, written by the people who work and teach in those majors every day.

Becoming a business major at CSU’s College of Business means joining a community that is committed to using business to make the world a better place. You’ll graduate into a supportive alumni network with a broad skill set in business backed up by the specialization of your choosing and the lifetime support of our dedicated Career Management Center.

#1. You can use business to create meaningful change.

No matter where your interests lie, there’s a chance we can help you use them to help improve the world. Our faculty are researching actionable ways that businesses can help address issues from climate change and biodiversity loss to big-data privacy and diversity in the workplace. Alumni and current students alike are using their skills to launch sustainable businesses and non-profits that reduce maternal mortality, lower carbon emissions and support people with disabilities. There are countless opportunities to use business for good!

#2. You can tailor coursework (and career) around your passions and interests.

As a business major, you’ll have the opportunity to select one (or more!) of our 10 concentrations to specialize your degree and create the experience most suited to your interests. Even better, you don’t have to decide your specialization right away. You’ll have your first year to explore business courses along with the support of our college academic advisors to help you find the right fit. The concentrations span the latest business topics and include:

You can also pursue the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Minor, where you’ll develop the skills associated with an entrepreneurial mindset – how to effectively challenge the status quo of business, launch new ideas, and find solutions to complex problems. The College of Business Institute for Entrepreneurship supports your interests by providing access to free workshops to networking and startup funding opportunities.

#3. You’ll have the proven support of our College’s Career Management Center.

The Career Management Center is designed to help you meet your career goals, and has a proven track record of helping students find internships and jobs that align with their interests and values. This is an invaluable resource as you start down the path of building a rewarding career where you’ll be able to use business to improve the lives of the people around you.

Throughout your degree, career counselors will meet with you to help you prepare for the job-search process, connect you with employers, set up mock interviews with industry professionals, offer guidance on accepting and negotiating job offers, and provide countless other support services. The center has your back after graduation, too, offering lifetime access to their professional insights for business majors.

By becoming a business major at CSU, you’ll discover how business touches nearly every aspect of our lives. The understanding you’ll gain of how companies and organizations operate — and what you can do to help them grow and improve — will prepare you to confidently chart your own course.
