What is the Scott Scholarship?

Colorado State University received a $53 million gift in 2016, the largest gift in university history, from the Walter Scott, Jr. family. Part of the gift provides funding for approximately 25 scholarships per year to exceptional freshmen engineering students worth $22,000 per year to exceptional engineering students, renewable for up to four years of awards (five if in the biomedical engineering program), provided the recipient meets renewal criteria and maintains satisfactory academic performance in engineering.

How do I apply?

This scholarship requires some additional steps and materials to apply. Be sure to apply before February 1 and follow all directions to be considered.

Step 1: Complete the Colorado State University Scholarship Application (CSUSA).

All admitted students are eligible to complete the CSUSA, which acts as a general application for hundreds of scholarship opportunities around campus. We recommend all students complete the CSUSA after admission and every year they are enrolled at Colorado State to find the best opportunities.

Step 2: Answer the supplemental essay question for the Walter Scott, Jr. Undergraduate Scholarship.

The supplemental essay question will be displayed after you finish your general application. Or, you can navigate to the scholarship directly.

You will need to enter your invitation code, then answer the required essay question: “The values promoted by the Walter Scott, Jr. Undergraduate Scholarship are leadership, excellence, and citizenship. Please describe how these values are consistent with your values, your accomplishments, to date, and your future engineering goals.”

Step 3: Prepare for an interview.

You will be notified whether you advance to the interview round of the selection process once all applications have been reviewed. Interviews will be last about 30 minutes and will held virtually. You’ll be able to select your date and time when you are notified.

What should I expect?

After the February 1 submission deadline, we will review applications and notify applicants whether they have advanced to the interview round. Scholarship awardees are typically notified by May 1; however notifications could go past that date.
